God loves you. To show His love for us, God created us in His image for relationship with Him. We were created to experience a personal relationship with God, to enjoy Him, and His creation. When we know God, love Him, and live in harmony with His purposes for our lives, it produces tremendous benefits—things like peace, fulfillment, confidence, and true life.
We all have a problem that separates us from God. The problem is that we all have a natural desire to do our own thing and ignore God's principles for life. This attitude is what the Bible calls "sin." This breaks our close relationship with God, and mars us as people made in God's image. It causes us to fear God. When our relationship with God is not right, it causes problems in every area of our lives.
God sent Jesus to remove the sin barrier and make a way for us to have a relationship with Him. God loved us so much that He sent His son, Jesus, as a solution to our sin. Jesus came, lived among us, and taught us about God and His ways. He then died for our sin, in our place. Rising from the dead, He made it possible for us to be restored to a relationship with God, and find forgiveness for our sin.
We have a choice to make. Following Jesus means that we have come to the place where we admit that we are away from God, that we need Him, and that we trust in what He did to offer forgiveness and relationship. It means learning of Jesus, and His ways. When we choose to follow Jesus, by His help we grow in our new relationship with God. This is the journey we want to help people with at Bethlehem Church. Your journey with Jesus Christ!
Bible verses that speak about choosing to follow Christ: John 3:19 John 14:16 John 3:16 Ephesians 2:8 Romans 10:13 John 3:36 Romans 8:16 Ephesians 4:24 Titus 3:5-7
Through prayer you can express your desire to begin this relationship with Jesus.
Admit to God that you are a sinner and express your sorrow to Him.
Ask Him to forgive your sins. Thank Him for this complete forgiveness.
Invite Jesus into your life as Savior and Lord and commit yourself to live for Him.
What's next? After you have committed yourself to live for Him, be obedient by following Christ's example in baptism and by growing in your knowledge of Him by reading the Bible, spending time in prayer, attending church, and by spending time with others who also follow Jesus. Still have questions? It's okay if you still have questions about how to become a follower of Jesus. If you have made a decision to follow Jesus as your Savior and Lord we would love to hear about that. Or, if you haven't made that decision yet but would like to know more, we'd love to answer those questions.
